In a large IT e-commerce project I was asked to help with communicating issue status graphically, to provide a quick check of the issues targeted for a specific iteration. So, a JIRA workflow was set up and the issue states were tracked over time. The states did not really indicate percentage completion because the workflow was spiral. Nevertheless, assigning colors to the states and plotting them in a cylinder chart resulted in a graphic that was instantly understandable by project managers and executives alike. You can see project stress points in the first two weeks in January (i.e. many new JIRA issues were added and many were in the “in progress” development state).
